I found this image gallery at Flickr.com which features "Transparent Screens". To save you all the googling they are actually not transparent, the authors used a digital camera to take a picture of the area behind the screen and used it as a desktop wallpaper thus giving the illusion of transparency.
I tried doing it myself and its not as easy as it seems.
Kudos to all the artist who posted -- great work!
